Exercise Rider Killed At Golden Gate Fields

I was saddened to read reports this morning that veteran exercise rider, Ignacio Ramirez was killed on the morning of November 16 when the filly he was riding to the racetrack to workout spooked, flipped over and fell on him in the barn area at Golden Gate Fields.

Ramirez, who was 58 years old, had just left the barn at 6 a.m. and was heading to the racetrack when the filly, who has not been identified, was startled and fell on top of him. The horse was uninjured. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene, according to racetrack publicity manager Tom Ferrall, who also indicated that services are pending.
