Venerable “Footman” Eddie Logan Funeral and Services

Eddie Logan, Santa Anita Park’s iconic shoe shine attendant, who has been plying his trade at The Great Race Place since December 25, 1934, passed away on the morning of January 31st. He never recovered after suffering a seizure and stroke on January 3, and died at his home in nearby Monrovia.

Services for Eddie Logan, will be held Tuesday, February 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Douglass & Zook Mortuary, 600 E. Foothill Boulevard, Monrovia, CA 91016.

Logan was a beloved fixture in the breezeway at Santa Anita where his customers, and anyone else passing by his stand, were always greeted with his celebrated, “Have a lucky day!” He was a former boxer and Negro League baseball player,

Beginning in 2006, Santa Anita honored Eddie Logan with a stakes race in his name late in December. Formerly run as the Hill Rise Stakes, The Eddie Logan Stakes is for 2-year-olds at one mile on turf.
