Brunette Off To ‘Reasonable Start’ for Button Down Racing

Button Down Racing’s 2-Y-O filly, Brunette, couldn’t hang with the leaders in a tough maiden special race at Turfway Park on Saturday, Dec. 13. The dark bay daughter of Lost Soldier finished seventh in the 12-horse field, 7 lengths behind the winner, Donamire Farm’s Walloon.

Button Down president, Michael Hardesty said after the race: “It was a reasonable start. I can’t be too disappointed because we were mixing it up with some heavyweight stables tonight- Donamire Farm, Zayat Stables and John Oxley to mention a few. It was a typical, tough, Kentucky maiden race.”

“It wasn’t Billy’s fault, but she was wide the entire race. Her 12 post position, coupled with a very quick half-mile (:44-1/5), left her hung out five or six wide. It was her first race and she just got tired at the end.”

Hardesty said he’ll decide where to point Brunette after talking with her trainer, William “Buff” Bradley, sometime next week. “I can tell Buff has a lot of confidence in her,” Hardesty said.
