Button Down Hopes for Big Holiday Weekend At Turfway
Button Down Racing’s partners should have plenty of action over the upcoming three-day Martin Luther King holiday weekend. On Friday night, 3-Y-O Sun Button will carry the LLC’s colors in the seventh race, a $30,000 maiden contest going a mile-and-a-sixteenth. Billy Troilo will ride and break from the 4-hole in a field of seven. Post time is 8:11 pm.
On Saturday, Rodney Prescott will have a mile-and-a-sixteenth to try and overcome the No. 11 post position in a maiden special weight aboard BDR’s 3-Y-O filly, Brunette. That race is the last on a card of 12 at the Florence, Kentucky track and is slated to go at 6:12 pm.
Button Down president, Michael Hardesty, said that he will also enter the partnership’s 5-Y-O mare, Sea Button, on Friday in an open claimer to run on Monday. Turfway is normally dark on Mondays but will race because of the holiday honoring Dr. King.
“The odds aren’t out, but I feel Sun Button will be the deserving favorite,” said Hardesty. “I just hope the weather cooperates.” Florence is supposed to experience some frigid weather on Friday and in the past, it has cancelled cards when the temperature dictates.
Hardesty had this to say about Saturday’s race. “Buff (trainer Bradley) thinks Brunette has enough class to merit stretching out, so we’re going to give it a go. I’m hoping Rodney can rate her a bit and come running at the end. We’ll see. Kentucky maiden specials are always tough”
As for Sea Button, Hardesty said, “She has certainly been an enigma and had only one good race in 2008. This is a new low for her ($12,500) and Bill (trainer Connelly) is putting blinkers on her for the first time. Hopefully she’ll get back to the form she showed as a three-year old.”
Sea Button won three of six races that year including the Pollyanna Pixie Stakes at Fairmont Park.
