Button Down Racing’s Sun Button Third in Debut

Sun Button, a two-year old son of Full Mandate, ran third in his initial race on opening day at Churchill Downs’ fall meet on Sunday. Jockey Calvin Borel was in the irons for trainer Buff Bradley and owner Button Down Racing. The Florida-bred bay colt was 2-1/4 lengths behind winner The Right Face, and just three-quarters of a length out of the place spot while earning a 70 Beyer number.

Not atypical for green two-year-olds, the race was marked by some juvenile antics in the paddock (Ridge City pulled his handler down), in the starting gate (Point May was scratched after rearing) and in the race itself (Sun Button was brushed in the lane).

“He could have been intimidated,” said Borel of the incident in the stretch run, “but he kept going and was running well at the wire.”

“I thought it was a great start for him,” said Michael Hardesty, president of Button Down. “He was very professional, particularly in light of all the commotion. It would be nice to get him one more start at Churchill and see if he can move forward.”

This looks like a nice partnership. They have a good location and seem to use good jockeys. I regret I can’t afford to get into any financial commitments right now, but I hope to be looking next summer.
I love this new website too. Lots of good information. I’ve subscribed to your feed.
