Horseplayers Racing Club Offers Cal-Bred Yearling Filly

Benchmark Yearling Filly
Horseplayers Racing Club, LLC, purchased this good looking California-bred yearling filly at the CTBA sale and we got a steal. She’s by grade II stakes winner of $636,707 Benchmark, one of California’s leading sires. He’s sired 14 stakes winners, including millionaires Brother Derek and Idiot Proof. The filly is out of Creole Delights, by Bertrando.

While Benchmark is a solid and attractive sire and the Nick rating on the filly is A+, it was the female side of the family and the filly’s good looks that really caught our attention. The mare ran just three times in southern California Maiden Special company and was third in her second start. We suspect she suffered a career-ending injury in her third start. She is a full-sister to California stakes winner of $244,327 Lacquaria and a half-sister to $394,212 stakes winner Wild Lightning and $60,939 stakes winner Minnetonka Mist, who is also by Benchmark. Interestingly, the catalog was printed just before her other full-sister, Cajun Flash, had her top two offspring earn stakes placings, including grade III Snapshot. Our filly is from the immediate family of grade I stakes winners Sewickley ($1,017,517), Cash Run ($924,201) and Shared Interest ($667,610).

The filly is very well balanced, poised and confident. She’s got big feet, which indicates she’s got another growth spurt coming, too. She’ll be going to the barn of Ed Moger after initial breaking and training at Green Valley Training Center.
