Hot n Dusty, a four year old bay filly by Unusual Heat and ridden by Alex Solis, got up by a nose at the wire to win a nice Allowance Optional Claimer, worth $31,200 to the winner at Santa Anita on Thursday. The filly is owned in partnership by Little Red Feather Racing and Madeline Auerbach. The trainer was Barry Abrams.

The sire—Unusual Heat—is owned in a syndicate by Madeline Auerbach and Barry Abrams (both principal partners) and stands at the Old English Rancho, just outside Sanger, California. Besides being a prolific sire of winners, many on the turf, he also has time to publish his own page on FaceBook.

Unusual Heat has had back to back winners this week—on Wednesday, another of his fillies, Unworldly Heat, won a Cal bred allowance race for Denise Breuer, one of the nicest small trainers around. After three heartbreaking seconds when the filly had been quite literally caught in the last few strides, this very easy win was way paste due for her.

Madeline Auerbach is also the founder and Chairman for the foundation CARMA (California Retirement Management Account) for retired racehorses.
