Keen Lassie Overcomes Troubled Start to Win Her Second Consecutive Race
Prime Equine Racing, T. Kurguz, and J. Riccardi’s Keen Lassie, who had to overcome being steadied just steps out of the gate, proved best once again at Suffolk Downs on Wednesday, scoring by an ever widening half length over favored Song Of Nora to win her second consecutive race.
Ridden once again by the ever capable Clifford Dooley, Keen Lassie was forced to take up when a horse to her outside turned in sharply towards the rail. Dooley found himself some eleven lengths off the lead, and three wide, into the first turn, as the field raced thru the first quarter mile. Never concerned, Dooley asked Keen Lassie to start making up ground down the backside and the team found themselves only a length and a half behind the leaders after three quarters. As they approached the top of the stretch, Keen Lassie and Dooley split horses and took over the lead from Lacy By Design. Song Of Nora surged up on their inside to threaten for an instant. Dooley asked Keen Lassie for a bit more in the final 30 yards, digging in to prevail while pulling away at the end.
Keen Lassie covered the about a mile and seventy yards distance over the turf course rated firm in 1:45 1/5. Her next scheduled start will be on September 16th at Suffolk Downs.
