Singletary is, without question, one of the highest achieving racing partnership horses ever. Owned by Little Red Feather Racing, five years ago he won the Breeders’ Cup Mile. This year, 2009, could make or break the horse as a stallion. Originally he retired to the Cardiff Stud Farm in Atascadero, California, but this year has seen him move to Harris Farms, near Coalinga, California where he will cover a small book of mares for the modest fee of just $2,500.

In addition to the Breeders Cup Mile at Lone Star Park in 2004, Singletary won six other stakes, including the Oak Tree Breeders’ Cup Mile and Arcadia Handicap at Santa Anita. From a breeding perspective, it’s perhaps unfortunate that most of his success was concentrated on turf, while most California breeders seem to choose stallions that have stamped themselves with main-track glory.

2009 is the first year Singletary will be represented by runners. Little Red Feather plan to run three of the stallion’s offspring and they will be trained by Marty Jones, Bob Baffert, and Mike Puype. All three two year olds will move shortly to San Luis Rey Downs in San Diego County to continue their preparation, stated Billy Koch, the founder and managing partner of the Little Red Feather.
