Madeline Auerbach, the California-based race horse owner who has made her mark with homebreds sired by leading California stallion Unusual Heat, will offer the public unprecedented access to the best two year-old sons and daughters of that sire with a new racing venture, it was announced Aug. 3.

Unusual Heat set the all time California record for progeny earnings in 2008 with over $5.8 million and is currently the leading synthetic stallion in North America. The racing venture offers his selected offspring to the public for the first time; until now, many of the top horses sired by the son of Champion miler Nureyev have raced privately under Auerbach’s colors. Six California-bred two-year-olds, full brothers and sisters to graded stakes winners Golden Doc A, Tucked Away, Lethal Heat, Lightmyfirebaby, and Bel Air Sizzle, are included in the offer.

Unusual Heat is the sire of 21 stakes winners and 13 other stakes-placed runners, including five graded stakes winners, one Group I stakes winner and six additional graded stakes placed runners. 69 of Unusual Heat’s 269 starters have earned over $100,000.

“I am proud to present six of my best Cal-Bred two-year-olds, all of which have exceptional pedigrees,” said Auerbach. “I am extremely humbled by the incredible success of this stallion and I hope this venture will bring success to others who love the game as much as I do.”

Little Red Feather Racing will manage marketing and client relations for the group, while Auerbach, who will retain an ownership interest in the venture, will oversee training and racing decisions on the runners. Barry Abrams, co-owner and trainer of Unusual Heat and many of his progeny, will train all of the two-year-olds.

“Madeline understands how fortunate she’s been with the Unusual Heat progeny, and she wants to bring new people into the sport,” said Billy Koch, Managing Partner of Little Red Feather Racing. “This a real chance for people to get involved with some very nice prospects. Because of the new California-bred incentive program, all of these two-year-olds have an exceptional chance to succeed. This stallion has a serious track record and we couldn’t be happier to be involved in this venture.”

Madeline Auerbach made her mark on California racing with homebreds, the majority being progeny of Unusual Heat. She has raced numerous stakes winners by Unusual Heat including Golden Doc A, Lennyfrommalibu, Lethal Heat, Bel Air Sizzle and America’s Friend, as well as Add Heat, Tucked Away and Thermal Ablasion. Auerbach is the director and vice chair of the Thoroughbred Owners of California and founder and Chairman of CARMA (California Retirement Management Account) which is a foundation established for retired racehorses.

Little Red Feather Racing is a market leader in thoroughbred racing partnerships. Best known for capturing the 2004 Breeders’ Cup Mile with Singletary, Little Red Feather prides itself on bringing new people into the sport in an honest, integrity driven environment.
